Chart makes sense. Too many people were scared away from Vista due the bad publicity it received in the beginning, so people stayed with XP. Now Windows 7 is receiving incredibly positive reviews (as it should). Windows 7 will soon begin to dominate, taking the throne from XP.
__________________Vista will completely disappear, as the large majority who was so inclined to upgrade to Vista, already has the personality to upgrade to 7. That, and 7 outperforms Vista in practically every way. So in a few years you'll see 7 on top. XP in a still respectable second place, but quickly fading. Vista will be completely gone, the way of ME.

Well don't forget that almost all enterprises are XP as well, that's an enormous amount of the computers right there. When they start shifting to 7 is when you'll really see the charts change.

Sure you can upgrade to IE8 but the default browser is IE6 and the average consumer doesn't know how to or wont upgrade their browser.

From my experiences, when you run Windows Update (which a lot of average users have set to "Automatic") in XP, it usually asks if you'd like to install IE8. It just takes a few of clicks. My point is that the OS pretty much does it for you.
