Not sure how profitable it is to pay reporters to go out and get and report the news, and try and pay them off of money from advertisements.

Most world and local news I read or hear about, or find online, does not originate at a "free" source.
How many websites do you see these days w/o advertising?

How do you think all the "paid" reporters you're referring to get paid? You say traditional news sources aren't free, but aren't they? I don't recall ever paying extra money so that I could watch the "EPICNEWZ" channel.

Just like everyone else, they make their money off of advertisements, and that's how they pay their employees. Isn't any different for the interwebs, there's no reason you can't make $$ off a news site w/o charging your viewers.

News is like history. It's written by the victors.

I agree that nothing of value was lost.

NYT, BBC, CNN, and the rest should follow Murdoch's lead and voluntarily remove their noisome presence from the commons.

Thats a shame. Fox is the only MSM network I can bear to watch. I would hate to not be able to read their news online, but not way in hell is it worth paying for.

If everyone just ignored the news and media and took in only major current events, we would be in much better shape on the whole. There isn't one news station that's any worse then the other. It's all an information overload meant to keep you in a whirlwhind and aggitated. Today media is nothing more then an echo chamber. Step out before it drives you insane.

^This.

I love it when the "personalities" (I can't bring myself to call them journalists or even anchors) say things like "A lot of people are saying".... who are these people? When did you interview them? What are some of the other people saying? Oh, all these people are all saying the same things?

What they really mean is 'person' -- and that person is...themselves?

Or "controversial". One word that is used with everything and usually the ones drumming up controversy are themselves.

And the TALKING POINTS. Ugh. Nothing makes it more obvious that your network is working from a script as when every anchor repeats the same lines ad infinitum as the news day progresses.

They're all biased propaganda. Especially MSNBC, and the ubermensch of this phenomenon is Fox - "sublty altering reality to sell a preconceived narrative".

Laws, yes! M-O-O-N! That spells yellow Journalism!

I find all you juvenile sheeple hilarious. You think fox is biased but you fail to realize that CNN is just as biased in the other direction, and MSNBC is even more biased then CNN.

If you were capable of thinking for yourselves would realize that all news sources are biased.

Yep...all news is biased...but FOX goes out of their way to claim "Fair and Balanced" over and over and over and over.

FOX needs to stop trying to tell me that theyre the only unbiased station out there!

And on topic....I would prefer not reading Murdochs news anyways....my solution is to read the story in a few different places..and make my own judgement....bbc...cnn...wall street journal....etc. etc.

MsNBC is as bias as Fox. CNN is far more centric than either but most news outlets are by nature, liberal, as they tend to try to educate and inform their viewers. Those who seek education and, specifically dissenting points of view are more liberal minded by the very definition of the word liberal, not the negative connotation it carries today.

However, no other news organization that I've ever heard or seen has been as ridiculous as Fox has been. The Prez is constantly labeled communist, socialist, marxist, etc. The prez does nothing yet is responsible for everything. The amount of hate being spewed at our current prez is sickening when considering the previous one lied to get us to go to war.

But, back to point. I would normally say that Fox is stupid for doing this but they have a lot of loyal followers and the fear and hate they like to sell is perfect for this type of economy.

This.

CNN and MSNBC have started leaning left in the last year or two, seeing how FOX has been so successful at their leaning right, and want to cash in on the other side. The unfortunate side effect has been that we don't have access to unbiased journalism anymore. I can only trust the BBC anymore because they are quick to point out any BS statement some politician says.
