Default Soundcard Advice ?!.

Am in the market for a new soundcard. I do abit of gaming on the PC and am really after a soundcard for music, I listen to loads of music thought my hi fi sythem, , Its a decent amp, speakers etc so i want a soundcard thats gonna give a good sound out, am not fussed on all the 5.1, 6.1 etc etc. Just something thats good which gives a good sound out. Its also running thought an expensive audio cable aswell.

Am looking at the:

SoundBlaster X Fi Xtreme Music OEM which is £50

and

SoundBlaster X Fi Xtreme Audio Soundcard OEM which is £30.

Whats the best or whats better out there for around £50. Is any diffrance between them two? sound wise?.

Luke

I say grab the xtrememusic if you can find it.. Frys has it for $70 OEM + shipping, but i don't suppose you can order from there.

Although from what i have read / heard the xtremegamer will do just fine as there isn't too much of a difference between the two...

I bought the XtremeMusic a while back, also oem for roughly 75 USD. I have been very pleased with it since (about six months or so), but I am currently thinking about upgrading. I recently purchased the Z-5500 Logitechs, and I get the feeling that the speakers are being held back by my sound card. So imho, if money isn't much of an object here, wait for the Prelude X-fi sound card to come out. That is going to be (I think) 199 USD.

One of the main reasons I would wait for the Prelude is because the Xtreme music minijacks on the faceplate are bad. They are for me, at least. I wish that I could have both digital and analog connections to my card to switch back and forth for gaming to music listening, but the jacks are too big and it just isnt possible. Not enough room. Also, from doing some research in this forum, the XFI cards do not have very good OPAMPS which can affect your sound a lot.

In conclusion, if you have the money to spend as well as the patience to wait, get the Prelude. Don't get me wrong though, the XtremeMusic is a very good sound card as well.

The Xtreme music is good, but modded it's better. (Bass is sloppy and all unmodded)

If you don't really care about gaming i'd get a card /w a better sound quality like a Juli or auzentech or something
