okay i found a good pair that blocks out ambient noise pretty well and sounds good. cnet gives it fourth place in best full-size headphones
Sennheiser hd280 pro and the cnet review here they said the hd555's sounded a bit better but they are also $40 more expensive

the HD555's are a great pair of cans, as are Grado SR 60's. I actually just picked up a pair of SR 60's cheap that need a new cable, so I'm going to fix them up and probably sell them seeing as there is a pair of SR 80's on it's way to my door... and a pair of SR 225's hanging on my rack

How about Audio Technica ATH-A500's? Same thing i posted before, except these are closed headphones, for that noisy dorm. They are about $85 or so shipped. A good choice if u want to stay under $100

i think ill just go with the HD555's, if i pick the hd280's ill probably be kicking myself for getting the ones with lower sound quality.

I'd say some Audiotechnica ATH-A700s would be best if noise is loud in your dorms, and that either some ATH-AD700s or Sennheiser HD555s would be your best bet if the noise isn't too bad. Trust me, open headphones and a lot of background noise can really suck up your music experience compared to some quality closed headphones.

Haha. Personally, I think open cans are more comfortable. With close cans my ears feel really weird.
