The best way to explain the difference is like going from listening to tapes to CD's.

Probably one of the best sub $35 mods hands down period. If anyone doesn't have an audio card, get one NOW.

PS; works out of the box with Mandriva One 2007.1 without having to configure anything.
<<<Convinced. I actually had the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer or something before but I couldn't fit it in my old rig so I took it back to the store and never bothered getting another. I was only going to get it to take resources off of my motherboard, but I hear how nice they are. Now I can't afford one of those but I can swing $35.

To the Egg!

I'm using the onboard on my sig rig and I don't hear any crackling. I have three sets of regular computer speakers (beige, no less) for the front, rear, and sides. I took a 3.5mm to 2x RCA cable and hooked up one of my active woofers to one of the RCA outs. I don't have a center speaker because I can't find an active one with an RCA input, but no biggie. 6.1 through Soundmax HD (came with the mobo).

I don't get crackling or noise or anything...it all sounds really good to me. Am I totally missing out or something? I was really proud of myself for spending $0 on sound.

@bigbear: You also modded the opamps right? I didn't really notice in the picture.

And soundcards are definitely the greatest things ever for computers. If you have a dual core CPU though, the performance isn't that difference, just sound experience is multiplied by eight-thousand.

I have a pretty decent shelf system hooked up to my computer and the INSTANT I played the first Anberlin song, I was 100% convinced the money was well spent BTW, my mobo has soundmax as well. You'll notice the same thing I would imagine. You just have the SLI version of my board.

Circuit City has the same price and you can just go pick it up. Just a FYI.

sound cards do rule, I used to listen to the computer more than the home stereo.

Till this happened the other day:

I seemed to have blown a nice 12" infinity sub LOL

It was old, it has had its time

now for an upgrade

I was thinking of building a new box...maybe a little more cuft for it.

This one was a little too small for the power

After that, a new sub for the house.

I have a 250 watt amp dedicated for that
