cheers mate, one more thing, ive followed the whole of your guide and when i went to play a song in foobar it says

Go back into the asio setup and delete and re add the sound setup there. Once you re add it, you need to assign the channels to different parts of the audio. (right to right, left to left) there are 6-8 or so to assign.

thanks guys, ill leave rep too. Am using the audio creation mode at the moment. Any other settings that i can use to further improve the already improved sound such as equaliser settings, frequency etc, many thanks

i do not use the equalizer from X-Fi
just play with Foobar's EQ.

I'm using the Z-5300 through analogue connection but I have a huge problem when I use the X-Fi Dolby decoder with movies. It started crackling and popping really badly but then when I put powerdvd back to 6 Speaker mode (instead of SPDIF) it returns to normal. Any reason why it would be worse with the X-Fi's decoder?

One thing I've noticed using ASIO: I have music that's encoded at different sampling rates(44.1 & 48K) and there were loud pops when switching between songs in rate to the other. If I went into DSP Manager and set the Resampler to 48000Hz(the highest sample rate I had used) the pops no longer happen.
