FOOBAR

first u need to download some components for foobar (really small sized files)
since foobar can be fully customized from interface to sound quality.

if u don't have foobar, download link below:
foobar Client - http://www.foobar2000.org/
(direct sound output provided with foobar)
Kernel Streaming output - http://www.foobar2000.org/components/foo_out_ks.zip
ASIO Support - http://www.foobar2000.org/components/foo_out_asio.zip
Channel Mixer(just in case u want to use 5.1) - http://d.turboupload.com/d/1936803/f...mixer.rar.html
Noise Sharpening - http://www.sendspace.com/file/hqxets
Put all files in foobar components folder (ie:C:\Program Files\foobar2000\components)


or download My Latest Foobar Components & Configuration pack HERE
just install Foobar, and then overwrite the whole foobar folder with the one i've uploaded.
read the bottom of my post to set up your skin.

for non creative(X-Fi) card user... u have to Download & Install asio4all to use ASIO output.


This is for 5.1 surround setup
using direct sound in X-fi entertainment mode(since channel mixer doesn't support ASIO in entertainment mode and it gives error to Kernel Streaming output)
Open your foobar,
press Ctrl+P,
then,

follow the pic


u can set each DSP plugin too, like equalizer. i like my preset, or u can just put it to flat.

I've supplied EQ presets, scroll down to the bottom of this post.

Resampler DSP

Never tick the Ultra Mode.

Channel Mixer Plugin Setup (follow the pic)




(u can change these settings according to your preferences)


Noise Sharpening makes your music sounds even clearer than crystalizer.
Adjust the slider as u like.


Last! the Output! just follow the pic.

and to be able to utilize the full surround on ASIO output, pick X-fi Audio Creation Mode.
TURN OFF CMSS3D FOR ALL MODES!

If u want to use ASIO + Surround, Use X-fi Audio Creation Mode(if not, one of your channel won't sound)
If u want to use DirectSound(DS) + Surround, any X-fi mode beside Game Mode will be OK.
If u want to use 2.1 + ASIO, go with Audio Creation Mode.

For 5.1 ASIO Channel Mapping in Audio Creation Mode:




for 2.1 setup.

u can use entertainment mode or audio creation mode, but some may prefer audio creation mode in X-fi console.

How to use Skins:

- put all files in their designated folder...
- Load Foobar.
- Pick Panels_UI Interface.
- press CTRL+P
- go to panels_UI tab, choose your skin.

if somehow u still don't understand what i've posted above... that means u haven't even downloaded all the right files needed to use the skin.

My entertainment mode doesnt have the dolby options, do you recommend entertainment over game mode? Might be because im in vista? crystalizer off? I am going to install the foobar plugins now and see where I get.

hmm, setting channel mixer to 5 and noise sharpening on, I think it sounds a lot better. Is it even possible to have true 5.1 when using optical? For some reason I thought it was upmixed stereo.
