Default Computer Speaker Set-Up

I am getting about 250 dollars coming my way and wanted to ask what sound card I should get and what speaker set? For the speaker set, where should I put them in my computer area? I have pics of my computer area setup but need help placing the new speaker system:

thanks!

What are you going to do with the wires that go to the speakers?

Are you comfortable with running them through the ceiling or the walls, or do you want to go wireless?

It will be difficult to do with the way your room is set up because it is diagonal and you are sitting facing the corner...

Btw KingDavid, the Logitech X-540's you have on your nice monitor there are a great set of speakers, but the wires are a bit short, and with 250$ you could do much better :P
