Default Finally Made the Switch

Well yesterday I finally decided to stop being lazy and swap out the stock speaker cables on my Z-5500 with some higher gauge gold cables my dad had lying around in the garage. I managed to swap out 3 of the 5 satellites before running out of cable, gunna stop by radioshack and buy some more later today. Anyway I did notice a slight increase in output. The speakers sounded much louder and much more rich than with the stock cables. Then again, I didn't trim the stock cables.

I'm wondering though; would the sound improvement be credited to the gold cable or the fact that they are shorter or maybe the combination of the two?

Definitely a combination of the two. The gold is a much better conductor and the fact they are short means the signal doesn't have to travel so much farther and lose it's quality. Good job on switching out the cables. Hope you enjoy your "new" sound system!!

To be completely honest, that thread got me off my lazy butt and went ahead with the rewire. I'm gunna change out the connectors when I'm feeling brave and not lazy.

When you say "gold" please elaborate...I find it difficult to believe that they have gold plated wiring. Well, they probably do but I can only imagine how much it costs. The key to the improvement really will be the larger gauge of the wire...it reduces the resistance of the wire allowing for less degradation of signal.

They looked gold so I said gold. I'm assuming they're just copper wires with a thick later of insulation over them.

Yes you can
The Z-5500 supports both Digital and Analogue connections so you shouldn't have any problems with the connection especially if you're using it for your sig rig.
