Default Got my A700's,,Sweet!!

Well, I got my Audio Technica ATH-A700's in today finally and I must say they are a mighty nice set of headphones.

Now all I have is my X-fi card and well, I'll just say I'm not too impressed.

So I need some help as all I usually deal with is 5.1 or 7.1 setups and not headphones.

Is there any thing I can do to help it sound better.(shouldn't say sound better just more sound and umpf if ya know what I mean)

So far this is what I have done. I have my X-Fi>5.1>headphones

I found that when I run X-Fi>Headphones that there is really low volume and sounds like crap to me but that imo.

So any help would be nice as to how I should go about this or maybe I just need to jump straight to an amp cause I'll be Dan%^& if I paid this much for headphones that sound like they're $30

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. I do hear the highs alot better but only when ran through my 5.1 Logitech headphone out.

P.S.S. I probably just don't know what to tweak

Just listen to these headphones for a week and let them break in a little bit. If they still sound poor like you're saying, then I don't know...

I'm not much of an audio expert, but I'd say it might be a good idea investing in a good headphone amp.

Turn the treble up, its preference..but I like more treble.
Also in audio console make sure its set to entertainment for music and game for games. It DOES make a difference. Lastly turn off EAX and the surround upmix for music.
Im listening to them right now with an extreme music, listening to metal, and all the highs and everything are very clear high pitch. I like them!

That's what I'm thinking, I don't know, maybe my expectations where just a little to high.

I'm not sure though because every now and again it sound like there is a charm or something like it's hard to describe.

Don't get me wrong they sound good but, I don't know maybe it's just me and I'm too used to actual stereo's and not some puny little piece of plastic.

I'll givem a week like you said Wire and see if they improve with burn in.

And Pooping^fish, the highs are fine it's the mids and lows that sre disappointing. and like I said when I run it straight to my X-Fi it's like the poor little card just can't power them.

Ok, well I must say they are VERY comfy though, and do give mighty good sound, I think I just need more power to get the lows to sound the way I prefer, which I prefer for the lows to be a little dominant over the highs and mids.

I try to up the bass but neither bass or treble tone change actually affect the playback. I think I'm just gonna have to tinker with it a bit more.

Yeah, just let them break in a little, also always leave your sound card in "Audio Creation Mode" with bit matched playback enabled, this will provide you with the best sound possible. The only time you need to switch modes is when you are about to play a game, then change it to game mode.

I'd chalk it up to being too used to your Z-5300s and the headphones not being broken in well yet.

After listening to the headphones for a while, you'll begin to notice a tighter, nuanced bass rather than the heavy, loose boom of the Logitech sub.

my dear fella....

GAMING MODE for headphones:
set to 2.1 speaker configuration, not headphones.
turn SVM OFF
turn EAX ON
turn CMSS3D ON
do not forget to plug the headphones directly to the soundcard.

Watching Movies in ENTERTAINMENT MODE for headphones:

(in Audio creation mode, turn bit-matched playback ON)
USE ASIO OUTPUT ON YOUR MEDIA PLAYER!
do not forget to plug the headphones directly to the soundcard.

you do not need an amp for your A700, though using an amp will give a boost.
it has a very good bass, but i must remind you that you should not compare logitech speakers' bass to these cans, becos after a while, you might despise your boomy bass of logitech speakers.

^^^^Thanks, yea, that's kinda what I was looking for. So far gaming wise these Headphones sound darn good, mighty impressed. After I got in and adjusted some settings the sound is much better.

Main complaint is from the lows with my D&B mixes. But what can you expect.

Oh yea, the bass I'm comparing too isn't necessarily my Logitech's as it is way to hollow for me, that's why I run optical out to my stereo receiver. Only problem is I can't use the mic then.

I'm gonna leave them playing over night and while I'm at work tomorrow.
