Ok I just got my license, and I will get to drive my mom's mini cooper (when she is not using it). I would like to be able to hook my iPod up to the car so I can listen to some good music while driving.
I noticed that the Mini Coopers can handle iPods, but I don't know if you need a special package or something. Being able to change the songs via the cars controls is not too important cause I play shuffle 95% of the time, and I can let my friends choose some songs. I would also like it to be compatible with multiple iPods would be nice, so my friends can plug in their iPod a listen to it. Another bonus would be if the iPod charged while it was plugged in. I don't want to spend too much, and I did a quick search @ futureshop / Apple.com and they didn't really give me what I wanted. I am also not sure if this should go here, but it is the closest forum.

A FM transmitter would be your best bet.

Unless there is an Aux jack somewhere by the radio, you'll need a FM transmitter.
I recommend this one made by Griffin: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16855999053 As with all FM transmitters, there will be a little bit of static, just a heads up.

I won't be turning the volume too loud. Just pleasant listening decibels. I have no desire to be heard a block away. Will the static be bad at this volume? Does the volume matter for the static?

There are 3.5-to-cassette tape converters out there. You could use one of those instead of an FM transmitter if the car has a cassette player.

I found this link. Looks like cassette had bad quality as well, and doesn't last long. I will check for an aux, but I doubt It has one.
FM should work for me I think.

casette actually sounds very good in my SUV
much better than fiddling with poor FM receptions.

I second that, I had a crap cassette I got for 5$ and it actually sounded decent for 7-8 months. Replaced it with a griffin transmitter but I didnt like that, it wasn't a car transmitter so it didnt charge the ipod, ate the battery and had poor quality. I got a nice cassette adapter and that did the trick!

I'm pretty sure you can get a factory integration unit straight from mini or you can try the dice module. I have the older, basic dice, in my bmw and it works fine. I can control the ipod through both the head unit and the ipod and tracks display on the screen. I'm not too sure how the new one works though. It also charges the ipod and is going to sound better than any fm modulator or wireless things. It might be more than you want to spend but it's just a suggestion. It was really easy for me to wire up too. All I had to do was connect it to where the factory disk changer would go. It might be different on a mini, but I wouldn't know.
