$200 will get you the best sounding pair of speakers (near field studio monitors) for that price

there's a lot more to subs than just wattage. Parts express has some decent 'cheap' subs, the x-sub is supposed to be pretty good.

tweak city audio has a new sub coming out that will be under $200 and is supposed to be very good. I have no doubt about this at all since it was designed by Mark Seaton, one of the best sub designers in the world. I also believe it's being manufactured for tweak city audio in one of av123's plants so the build quality will be first rate.

DIY subs will net you best performance for your dollar. That Rythmik Audio make great servo based subs that can actually hit that 20hz someone mentioned earlier, at less than $500. The materials to make the box runs around $30. Best subs you can get for the money imo. Even if you don't go that route though, don't cheat your sub, it is an extremely important part of your investment.

not everyone has access to the tools required, nor the ability to build an enclosure. I myself have built several speaker enclosures before, but currently lack the tools or space so it's a tossup. If you look around and wait you can typically find great deals on subs... like what I got
