Default Certain sounds missing.

So the wife is out of town so i figured I would hook up the sound system.

Its a 5.1 logitech speaker set with an x-fi gamer, got everything hooked up all fine and dandy, started to play COD4 and for some reason I could hear every sound effect, except for my own rifle.

Started screwing around with things and found out that the effect the speakers themselves were set to was: stereo, which cuts out the rifle sounds, set it to 6 channel direct however and everything is perfectly fine. So I loaded up titan quest and titan quest: immortal throne and they both have the exact same issues for both of them, I can't hear myself running around and through things, nor can I hear myself clubbing baby seals. So the way it is setup now, COD4 works perfectly fine and titan quest doesn't.

Checked the support website for titan quest, nothing useful, checked creative's forum and troubleshooting guide, nothing useful. Also downloaded the latest drivers, which actually make my speakers snap, crackle, and pop, which I think has something to do with creative crippling their drivers, so now I have to roll back.

Anyone have any ideas?

I had the snapping, crackling and popping from my Audigy 2 ZS, and it was from newer drivers. But it never started until I used Hibernation mode.

One day, out of boredom, I came up with another way to save electricity around here, and that was by setting it to auto-hibernate basically, and when I came back to the computer for the first time, I was greeted with lots of static, crackling and popping. I was worried my sound card just died.

It would gradually go away, and then there'd be a random pop about every 5 minutes or so.

So then I updated to the drivers the sound card came shipped with, and the problem stopped - or so I had thought. I went back to using auto-hibernate (that's not the name for it, but you know what that is), and the same thing happened when it came out of hibernation. Then I decided that it was a hardware issue, and I ignored it from that point forward.

So, if it weren't for that, my current sig rig would have an Audigy 2 ZS instead of the XtremeGamer 7.1. So, I'm really glad that happened.

But let me know if your problem is solved by rolling back the drivers. I kinda wanna test my Audigy 2 ZS to see if it's in good condition for selling.

Well I had the lack of sounds issue this morning using the drivers it came with anyway.

with the newest drivers, the loud pops occur when I start a game and when I quit the game, sometimes even when I start IE.

I am so ****ing furious right now man.

So I figured, hey I have onboard, I can install that and see if I get the same problem, then its something wrong with the game. Well turns out the audio files on my cd that came with my mobo are corrupt and they don't work, then I finally found a thread on the evga forums with a realtek link to the drivers, they would install, but I would have no audio device found, and yes, Onboard audio was activated in BIOS. So I gave up on that, plugged my x-fi back in, and it recognized it, meaning the creative program won't actually delete the drivers, so I went into my C drive and deleted the folder manually, used ccleaner to clean things up, and now with the card plugged, my computer will just keep restarting, there are creative files hidden somewhere and they are ****ing with my computer, these mother ****ers.

And of course, there is no audio device anywhere to be found in the sounds icon in control panel, as well as the device manager, no listing in add/remove programs, so now I need to go find a driver removal program and I am just going to remove all my mobo, video, and I guess audio drivers, and see where that gets me.

Before you do, and this feels like a lame suggestion, but here it goes:

Try using the Add Hardware control panel to see if that will work. If it doesn't, then

1. Use Add/Remove to uninstall everything Creative.
2. Use Device manager to make sure everything Creative is gone.
3. Remove the sound card.
4. Start the computer back up and reboot a couple of times to get the environment used to the idea that it has no sound card.
5. Re-install the sound card as if you just purchased it.

If this doesn't work, then reformat.

I actually did what you said in that exact same order, only, as soon as I took the card out, I was finally able to get back into windows.

I finally dug through creatives help guides and found a method to uninstall everything creative,

All you have to go is go into the driver cd, go to audio, drivers, and then setup, and youll have an option to uninstall it all.

The sad thing is, the cd was what started it all in the first place, installing the drivers off of the cd, which I did find were better than the latest ones on the website, locked my compute up in the middle of the install and it all went downhill from there.

Sadly, after all of this, I am still missing certain sound effects in immortal throne.

It is so sad how easy a fix this was and it only goes to show how retarded creative is, I figured it out.

Their documentation is wrong, where they tell you to insert your three connectors for your speakers are all wrong, the three they had flipped the center and the rear and so my center didnt work and that was the speaker my game used for the specific sound effects.

I took all my connectors out and plugged them in one at a time and doing sound tests and until sound was coming out of the correct speakers, never trust creative.

Well, at least it's working. I suppose it would be impossible for a single surround sound card to work precisely the same way with 100% of the surround speaker systems out there.
