best bang for buck sound card.
looking to buy a new one, since i've been running onboard.

What will you be using it for? For stereo music playback, the Chaintech AV-710 is the king of budget cards. You can find them used on eBay for even cheaper as well.

maybe throw him an offer for $50 on that Xfi Fatality... It has more investment opportunity, and its a GREAT Card, although retail all you're really paying for is the Fatality name...

well I was told getting a soundcard would put less strain on my system while I was gaming...and better audio is always a plus!

It's more for the sound quality. The performance gain is supposedly very marginal.
