Default Onboard's a pain. Which sound card to get?
I'm looking to get a sound card because the onboard keeps making a sound as if somebody is crumbling a bag near my ear. I heard that some cards will decrease FPS in games and I don't want that. So basically I need a card thats good all around, has both vista and XP support, and ~$100.

Well dedicated sound cards take load off the CPU so it would IMPROVE FPS (marginally), I don't know, the X-Fi XtremeMusic or gamer pretty much, or the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude if you have more cash.

Fala1ty version has a 64 x-ram that is useless.Suppose to help in gaming but it doesn't.

the fatality versions simply add a few lights, sometimes add the XRAM (slightly beneficial) and then slap the fatal1ty name on it and make u pay more for it, if u ask me you should stiock to an old X-Fi XtremeMusic, I have the XtremeGamer and its really not as good, but I needed it for its compact size...

My sound card is fine, and far superior to on board, but I would greatly suggest the investment in an XtremeMusic edition before the investment in the XtremeGamer edition, and I would defiantly NOT SUGGEST any of the Fatal1ty cards, as you're paying more for the Fatal1ty name than anything beneficial... also beware of Vista 64bit driver issues..
