I thought there was a 680i bios update that fixed that?

Well if its not heard on every song, possibly youre speakers/drivers? Just my 2 cents, could even be the source which the music is coming from. If its mp3 or other format, maybe the creative card is so good it picks up on the degradation of the format?

There is a very good chance that you are just picking up the bad quality of the source with your headphones, I'm assuming that you are listening to music through your A700/AD700. Try an original CD source or lossless of the same music and see if that problem persists.

check your IRQ settings. If you are running shared irq for your x-fi, you may be saturating the pci bus, which could be creating the crackling/popping sound.

maybe your sound card is mounted too close to your HDs/Fans and is picking up some disturbance from them (EMI) mounting a sound card in the lowest possible slot is suggested since that is usually as far away as possible from sources of static emissions. also you could look into the ERS paper mod from the Incredible X-FI Mod thread... I'm sure it may help if HDs and static were the source...
