Default Should I replace my headphones?

I currently have the Bose QuietComfort 2 headphones. I know from reading other threads that bose is not seen as quality from audiophiles. Please hear me out first.

I bought these a year ago for the noise canceling feature, not really for good audio. I play division one soccer in college and I travel a lot. We travel by both plane and bus, both of which are very loud, so the noise canceling was great. The hall in my dorm is also very loud so noise canceling is good for this as well. I sometimes game late at night so I need closed headphones so I don't wake my roommate up.
Lastly, I live on the other side of the country of my college so I fly across country at least six times in a year, so that is some good travel time (around 12-16 hours).

I have recently been thinking of upgrading to a new pair, would you advice doing this in my situation?
I have been looking at the DT770's. How long is the cord? How are they in canceling outside sound?
I need a pair that will be easy enough to travel with and have good bass. I listen to rap and rock and game quite a bit. Looking to spend under $150 as that is how much I can sell my bose set for.

Also, is there anyway that I could attach a mic to headphones for use on xbox live?

Thanks in advance

the DT770s are very good headphones, although you need the 770m /80 ohm pros for the best sound signature. I would definantly suggest them over any Bose headphones although you make a valid point with noise cancellation, but the DT770s are closed back headphones, and will not allow much noise through. The quality will far exceed your old boses, and thats what really matters, but a good question is what file formats do you store your audio in? the quality is only as good as the source...

I currently get my music off of ruckus, which is free to use via my college. don't really know the quality, what should I look for? What is good quality? I was looking at getting Foobar but it seems a little confusing.
I am going to be using these for 360 a lot and then music on pc, sometimes games.

the quality of an Mp3 is slightly deteriorated due to the compression, I support FLAC and other forms of lossless media. If Foobar is too confusing try an install package such as Fooava, works wonders The headphones will be fine for Games, and dedicated sources... (360, CD Player, TV, etc)

%root%/program Files/Foobar2000/components

and extract all of the components into there, then launch it, if there is a dead component link msg me, I'll send u the file...

here are the components u need, and I addded the ASIO_out plugin as well, it is beneficial if you have a sound card, using the full potential of the sound card to output music instead of the Microsoft kernel

For the maximum amount of noise cancelling you probably will want something like an IEM (in ear monitor). They plug into your ear for the best isolation possible. Some of the IEMs in the price range of the DT770 include the Ultimate Ear Super.fi 5 Pro (some claim they are the best in the price range), Super.fi EB (Extended Bass), the Shure E4c/SE310/SCL4 (very neutral sound compared to the other IEMs), the Etymotic Research ER6i (brighter sound compared to the UE and Shures), and th Livewires (custom fit IEMs, I have heard their sound is more similar to the Grados, forward and tremble happy, my style).

Edit: sorry I didn't really answer your question about DT770, a little smashed right now. The DT770 are close cans, so the isolation lies somewhere between open cans and IEMs. Compared to your Bose, it might have a slightly less amount of isolation, but with the amount of detail you are gaining, you can listen to them at a lower volume compared to the Boses.

Edit 2: Depending on which version you get, you might want to consider an amp to drive it properly. The 80ohm version probably would be able to get away with unamped, but the 250 ohm version mostlikely will need an amp to reach full potential. But they are great cans to grow into.
