Hey guys was looking at speakers for the girls rig and found some Z-2300 from dell for $100 shipped.
These things any good for that price. I know the Z-5500 can be picked up for about $200 shipped but didnt want to spend that amount of money. Thanks for the input.

Did you end up getting those Z-2300? I am thinking of getting those for music, but I hear the bass is too "boomy". Can anyone confirm this?

The bass will kill you. Literally. They are some pretty kickass speakers.

. My friend has these speakers and they are pretty damn nice for $100. I'd say go for it.

I haven't heard those speakers but bass being described as "too boomy" means it sounds like there's no treble and all bass which is an ugly, muddy sound.

We have some of those in the tech lab at my school and they do sound slightly "muddy" I would go for some logitechs. I love the sound of those.

My thoughts are to get the Z-2300 for rap, hip hop, trance, techno, movies, etc. Basically, bass-centric content. They have a pretty capable subwoofer. For most anything else I would get the ProMedia 2.1.

I own the 2300's and i love them, and I listen to all old rock (zeppelin, maiden, floyd, etc) I highly recommend them. They do sound bad out of the box I admit, but once you install the software and tune them more for rock than rap, they are very nice speakers.
