I give up. I've been trying to get this fixed for 3 weeks now. I have an Audigy 2 and Logitech Z-5500 digital speaker set. My previous speakers, Z-540's worked just fine. Once I plugged these up, I cannot hear anyone talking, or the main sounds coming from the people talking. (ie, gun fire). I can hear all the background sounds, but that's it..
I've messed with all the settings from software to drivers. I have tried several video programs including Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, VLC Media Player.. All have the same result ![]() Games work fine. Music works terrific. Web-based video/audio work fine. I'm running Vista Home Premium, on a Sony DVD burner under a year old. My 780i onboard audio is disabled so it's not a conflict. Help? ![]()

Check the connection on your center/sub jack. Unplug it and plug it back in.

I guess check to see if your system settings are set to 5.1?

Only happens when you play DVDs, but games, wmvs, mp3's all work fine? Sounds like you might have a bad codec or the software that plays your dvd discs got corrupted. Try installing a new codec pack, reinstalling your dvd software, or using other dvd software. If everything else is working fine, I highly doubt it's the new speakers. If it works perfect in mp3's and games, then it's a software/program error, as the OS is able to output correctly in other formats.

All my settings are correct. 5.1 and all.
How do I do this codec thing? And how would I reinstall WMP 11 and/or media center? I'm getting Vista Ultimate in the mail here in the next few days I hope. Maybe a fresh install will fix it all. :/ Add: I just tried to play a video I recorded from my camera and it says I need a codec.. Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Cirrus Logic AccuPak Video (CLJR) codec is not installed on your computer. The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the Cirrus Logic AccuPak Video (CLJR) codec, see WMPlugins.com. but I can't find anything on this?

The K-Lite pack doesn't have any effect.

But my onboard also doesn't work, and it's not Creative. Disabling the Audigy2 and using the onboard, would the software being installed still affect the audio? And it's not the speakers because they work great for other things. As it's just when I try to play a video, I have this problem, could it be more of a video issue than audio?

the cljr codec you could probably find from the manufacturer of your camera. I personally use K-lite codec and have no problem with DVD playback. I think there is a way to add/remove windows components from the add/remove program box. You should try that, or maybe try WinAmp or some other software to see if it works. If not, then the clean install that you are planning on should help.
