Tired of onboard sound, I need to step up.

Need one that works well on vista and preferably one with 5.1 channels.

I'd appreciate any help.

Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic is the best value for that price range. You could also get the XtremeGamer if you can't find Music.

And I was also wondering if the driver issues for vista have been fixed yet.

I've been hearing that the vista drivers for X-Fi are inferior to their XP counterparts.

Not really. Mine works wonderfully. The only thing I don't get in Vista that I had in XP was native EAX support in my games, but Vista has a reworked sound structure so I knew going in that I wasn't going to have EAX. It's a vista limitation, not a creative one.
