Are you ever going to be on linux cause Creative could care less about linux. I don't know anything about the ASUS XONAR but X-Fi Music is really nice in a Windows environment. If you get an OEM X-fi card the official driver CD is free to order on their site but takes a while to get it.

Newegg almost always has XFI Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Edition cards with a $50 rebate which puts them under $100. I'd wait for that to happen, which happens ofter, especially if you are gaming.

Aside from the xonar, there is also the 0202 USB.
My brother has the Xonar d2, it sounds just a little bit worse then my modded xtreme music.
