Some time back I bought an audio card (Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Audio 24BIT Sound Card 7.1 PCI-E X1), popped it in to my XP Pro install, installed the drivers and enjoyed life.
The other day I reinstalled XP Pro, and came on a problem. Windows no longer recognizes the card. It shows up as "PCI Device" in device manager. What this means is that all of Creative's driver installation utilities fail with a message like "Can't find a creative product on your system." Basically, Windows can't properly see the card. I installed Everest Ultimate, and it does see and properly recognize the card. I tried shutting down, taking the audio card out, booting up to windows, shutting down again, popping the card back in, booting up windows again in an attempt to get the "new hardware found" dialog - no such luck. I tried a dozen driver installation things - all fail with similar errors. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try to go into device manager, right click the "PCI Device" and then uninstall. After that you should try running a driver cleaning program such as CCleaner. Then try installing the card in a different PCI slot. When the computer boots up, do not let XP install any drivers and software. Install from the installation disc or updated drivers from Creative's website. Hope this helps!

Hey Zulli85, thanks for your reply.
I tried that with no success . I should note that I don't have the original installation disc (no idea what happened to it)...I just reinstalled XP Pro again - same exact thing.
