Basically i finally have a use for an mp3 player and want to get one.
__________________So i was thinking a 80gig zune? an opinions on that? i guess video isn't terribly important to me but it would be nice. Also i am considering getting a napster subscription and using that to put songs on it. From what i understand they have a subscription that lets u put any amount of songs on an mp3player and then you just have to connect it to the comp every 30 days? anyone know if that's correct? anyone have any suggestions for a similar system? ty, rep for good answers ![]()

The zune and Ipod are really just about preference. If you'd rather have buttons or touch technology. I've had both and liked both. But preferred the ipod because of itunes.
Napster I believe has a subscription for an unlimited amount of downloads for a monthly lump sum of like, $20 or something.

I have an iPod and love it.
The only downside is the price, you are paying for the name. (FYI, you can't even get discounts on them, because there is hardly no markup, stores make the money from the accessories.) iTunes is good and easy to manage; BUT for my everyday media uses, WMP all the way. The scroll wheel is one of the greatest advantages of the iPod, as you control the speed at which you view the menus, songs, etc... Other MP3 players are click button, or a scroll line; Buttons are slow, and lines mean you have to keep returning to the top of the bar, to scroll down again. (With the iPod, you just keep going clockwise/anti-clockwise.) You may hear some negative news like "iTunes (Therefore iPods) sucks 'cause you can only have one library", or "I can't use it on my system". These are not the death of iPods. I know several solutions including how to make a second library, without making a new user. (That is the easiest solution though) And even progs that will work with iPods, but will run on older systems. (I had Windows ME that couldn't run iTunes, so I found a program called YamiPod that would, and then Floola (Floola won't run on ME either), However, they are both standalone solutions, so if you have no access or install privileges at work, you can still manage your iPod) (I recommend Floola if you have XP, just easier to use, YamiPod was just my only option at the time.) --If you want to know anything more about what I've said, or ask anything else MP3/iPod related, PM me.-- P.S I don't know about Napster paid subscriptions. (Didn't it used to be free, but then it was fined by government or something?) P.P.S *cough* "Who actually PAYS for music these days?" *cough* Nah, keep he industry alive, I download MP3's to see if I like the artist (like a radio preview), and if you do, buy the album!, if you don't, nothing lost.

I had a Creative Zen Xtra 40gb for a long time and I had tons of problems with it. I had to send it back to Creative twice for little switch you move up or down to scroll through the menus. I got an 80GB Ipod classic earlier this year and love it. The only problem I have with it is once in awhile the touch screen will take a second or two before it responds. I wish the battery life was better (naturally) but it is still much better than the Creative I used to have. I do not like iTunes, I installed it to move all of my media to my Ipod and then got rid of it. Later on, by accident, I found out that Winamp (my preferred media player) has build in Ipod support so I didn't even have to use iTunes. Overall satisfied with my purchase, wish I had bought a case earlier though, I got a scratch on the screen I still need to buff out, my fault though.

The Zune is a good choice, my brother has one, he is pleased.
But I like my ipods better. I have had an 60 gig (or somthing 50 it broke I cried) yea someone on my hockey team stepped on the ipod while it was in my pants, they fell on the floor. It had like 2000 songs on it, I'd say it was an overkill, but plenty of room for over stuff, movies etc. Now I have an 8gig Ipod touch and I love it. Web surfing is sweet, too bad it doesn't have firefox, but it is great. Maybe not so big on the capacity, but it has enough space for me, and when I go to somewhere that has free wifi, and my Ipod is with me, I can surf the web. Now its like chevy or ford, pick which one looks better to you, we all know how they perform. But I'd say, go with iPod, the only Apple thing I like are those, Itunes is great software. The Zune is pretty good, I'm holding it now looking at the apps or w.e, its pretty sweet.

I'd say go for the Zune. I've loved my 30 gig almost to death (not literally), and, though I don't own an 80 gig, have used them. Personally, I like the Zune interface better, for both its program and device. Also, the Zune Marketplace has a $15/month unlimited download subscription. It is incredible.
I guess that, for me, the thing I love most about Zunes is: they are rugged as hell. Period. I don't know how many times I've dropped mine or screwed with the firmware, but it doesn't die. I almost want mine to because I want an 80 gig or a Zune Touch (or whatever it'll be called) when it comes out. Regardless, Zunes are tanks. Of course, these are my experiences with my 30 gig Zune. I'm sure, though, that with the 4, 8, and 80 gig Zunes being metal, they are even tougher. On the other hand, there are other perfectly good players out there other than Zunes and IPods. I wouldn't really be able to give you any advice on 'em, but don't rule them out. I'd stick with a Zune or an IPod because, unlike most other players, Zunes and IPods have programs and stores dedicated to just them, which is very convenient.

The only problem I've had with my 80GB Black Zune, was the fact that the stupid pad was being stupid, or stuck. Whatever. I loved it though, had a good run. I got it right when it was released. I plan on getting the new Creative Zen X-Fi 32GB. Never had an iPod in my life. I don't like the wheel thing.

From what I've read the zune has much better sound quality than an ipod, but then again lots of mp3 players beat the ipod in that category. If I were you I would stick with the sony a810 series or the cowon d2 or its smaller brethren or a iriver clix2, all three of those are ranked high in sound quality and functionality. If you purchase any of these three you will not be disappointed, as for the zune, they are not bad but just not as good.

f you fill your iPod with crappy 128kbps songs, it'll sound crappy. If you put full 320kbps mp3's, it'll sound great.

That makes perfect sense, but if your playing 320kbps music from a realtek onboard soundcard or a x-fi prelude, which is going to sound better?
