This question has been asked numerous times already, but I agree with the above in saying the Xonar is probably your best bet.

As mention the Asus Xonar DX. Avoid Creative products.

While the X-Fi are great cards, they are really only optimised for XP. M$ changed the way audio is done in Vista. The ASUS Xonar has been engineered with these Vista in mind, and is coded prperly to handle vista, where as the X-Fi drivers have undergone significant tweaking to get make the card capable of handling Vista.
Therefore the Xonar is by far your best option.
