Default Does anyone here know a good card to run a guitar through?

Does anyone here know a good card to run a guitar through? What I'm trying to do is use my computer as an amp for my electric guitar. I apparently need a graphics card with a high snr(?). I'm a total noob when it comes to sound and I already tried Google but I can't find anything good.

Avoid audio cards that are focused on gaming or playback functionality. If your intention is to record audio from a guitar then you're going to want a good recording audio card. From an electrical engineering standpoint, a chipset that is designed for recording is not the same as a chipset that is designed for playback.

You should be looking towards products from manufacturers such as Echo, EgoSys, Emu, and M-Audio. If it were me I'd be looking towards something like the Emu 0404.

Ok i will look into it. Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Will the Emu 0404 still be reliable for audio playback?

The card will still be better than onboard audio for such things like music and other media. Just don't expect fancy environmental effects in your games. Also, make sure that whichever card you decide to get has drivers available for the operating system that you're using.

I found the card on the website and it looks great! And at a 99$ pricetag I cant go wrong. I guess i will buy a second card if i want to have fancy effects. Thanks again.
