Hey guys, so a few relatives like to shop EARLY for christmas and they want a list.
One of the things I want are a nice pair of headphones when the g/f doesnt like me to JAM OUT or play surround sound gaming. lol So..... What do you guys recommend? Cans and a stand alone mic or are there a good pair of phones/mic combo? Not sure of the budget so let say... Under 100$

zalman clip on mic - 10-20$ for whatever you can find it.
Depending on your taste in music... What is it? Also, you probably want closed back so sound doesnt leak out and annoy her, but hey. Here are some suggestions just based on gaming. HD212's, AKG 81 DJ's. HD555's are a staple for gaming around here, but they're open backed. Check out my guide here : http://www.overclock.net/sound-cards...-headsets.html

Most people who fall into your category pick up some HD555's. they are extremely popular, and perform well in all catagoerys, especially gaming. There are tons of reviews out there. If you'd like, I can show you some, or just head over to head-fi.org and search around.

HD-555 are great for gaming, but leak a ton of sound... so if you have your headphones turned up, someone in the next room could probably faintly hear the noises... as for the zalman mic, I picked one up for about $10 a month ago, and suggest you not getting it.. the clip isn't really a clip.. its just an opening in which a thick wire can get stuck in it.. a thinner wire will not allow the mic to clip on.. also, although the sound quality from it is pretty good, the sensitivity is terrible... I need to hold it up to my mouth just for people to hear me

If you don't want to leak "a ton of sound" [which is subjective to everyone person] Try out the HD280's. They're around 100$ and they don't leak nearly as much sound.

I personally just upgraded from my old HD555s to some 650s and there is a defiant improvement in the bass department, and they are still easily just as balanced, although now my favorite gaming headset has to be my DT770 pro 80s...
