bass is overpowering like any logitech item, nothing 3 minutes in the EQ won't fix. they get MIGHTY loud, have the optical/TOS, but they're are by far the best 5.1 bang for your buck.

I find that offensive!

Second best 5.1 computer setup I know of, best still in production. When it was still being made, the Klipsch Ultra 5.1 setup kicked the Z5500's patootie, but they stopped making 'em. =/

. I'd definitely recommend them, especially if you like to listen to music loud or want to turn them way up so you can hear them in other rooms (ie. house parties).

I say it depends on the price you are paying for them. in all honesty they are nothing more then a hyped up home theater in a box. they sound ok, but they are designed for those who aren't really wanting something good just rather loud with bass.
__________________the sub itself is a little lazy and boomy. you can easily localize the sub when playing certain things. the main speakers don't play low enough, distort WAY too much on the higher frequency range which makes them a little harsh, and also have a very noticable lack of low end to them that leaves a big hole in the frequency range (just like bose). this is why that sub has to play so high up in the frequency range which doesn't sound good. but as I said that wasn't what they where designed for. instead they where designed to pack cheap main speakers with the main requirement of power handling, with a sub designed to make it look like it pounds bass to market it to people who worry more about how loud can I turn it up rather then how good can it play.

"The bass is overpowering"
The same people saying this would be saying the bass is too quiet if that were the case. IMO its better to come to the party overprepared than underprepared.

I'm looking to purchase the z-5500 set as well. It doesn't seem like there are any other 5.1 comp speakers out there that are better than these...am I wrong? I mean, this set has been out for about 4+ years, so has anything else come out of the 5.1 camp that can beat these? Thanks.
