Default Have X-Fi, Will turn off onboard... ?

Alright, so I dual-boot Ubuntu and Vista and right now I use X-Fi for Vista and onboard audio for Ubuntu due to Creative sucking proverbial balls with drivers.

So, if I were to start, say Vista, I would:

Go into the BIOS, turn off onboard audio then go to the back of my computer and plug my audio jack into the X-Fi card port.

Now, recently I just discovered that I can leave my onboard audio on and the X-Fi seems to be the one pumping the [higher quality] sound through Vista and the onboard seems to not be active.

So, basically I've just got rid of one annoying step during boot. Now all I have to do is unplug the jack and either plug into X-Fi or onboard! Which is great!...

However, my question is: because I have onboard active in the BIOS, will it interfere with the X-Fi while in Vista? I'd rather not have the low-fi quality interfering with sound while in Vista. I've always been told that once you get a sound card you should disable the onboard audio. I want to leave it on because it just gives me less of a headache.

i would think it wouldnt matter because it's two different devices and two different audio jacks.
On a driver sense however, the two devices may conflict. I think it's either the drivers mess up or it's fine and each device has it's own sound. no mixing of onboard + X-fi sound

That's pretty much exactly how I want it. It's just that I sometimes forget to go into the BIOS to change my sound and I either have no sound or crappy onboard sound in Vista when I listen to my music.

as long as you have no onboard audio drivers installed in your vista partition then it will not be recognized in vista, and there fore will not interfere/play, and then visa versa in Linux with the X-Fi
