I bought a 8400GS PCI card last night, install it and the other day my sound disappeared right after installing it. So i did some search, downloaded my onboard drivers, ac97. So anyways, now maybe about 20mins ago after install a new monitor, the sound disappeared.
__________________I have notice, when i uninstall my drivers are not install for my card, and when i am in the process of installing them ( safe mode, restarting windows, etc ) i hear some weird noise in my headphones, can't explain it, but it sounds strange. Does anyone have any idea what to do, also where i can find my sound drivers? Because the ones that i downloaded before, is not working anymore: http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/74/74424.htm For Windows ME users. These drivers work perfectly on my Intel III 800 machine. Unzip Ichaud.sys and copy to your Windows\System32\Drivers folder. Copy the other two, VMM32.VXD and MMDEVLDR.VXD, to the Windows\System directory. Reboot and you are set. The first time i did that, the sound came back, now its not working ![]()

Maybe you should just upgrade your computer...
Sorry, but I doubt the drivers for your hardware are even actively maintained anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if there are strange problems when the old hardware is combined with modern hardware.

I hope i can fix it
__________________ If the 8400GS is causing issues with my onboard sound, well i do have 2 extra sound cards, diamond and soundblaster, so i might have to install them if i can't fix the issue. But , if the 8400GS is causing issues, this would be the first card that ever did it. Either way this card is not going back to the store, this is the best PCI card out. Anyways, thanks.

"Have you gone into your BIOS and checked to make sure onboard is enabled? Also, do you have any sound cards (PCI) you could install it and use the drivers for it. Ummm... check the volume control to make sure it is all set properly." "What does it say on the Device Manager? Is there any ! symbols next to anything?".
