Default Headphones not playing all sound

Right, I have some headphones "Phillips SBC HP840" and they're rather out-dated.
Problem is, I used to be able to plug them into my 5.1 speakers and get full sound... I just tried it now and its only giving me sound as my headphones were the two rear speakers. No matter what I do it won't play the sound that the front left/right should be playing so everything is super faint and I can barely hear anything at all =(

Is there something I can do to make it work as it used too, or should I just get new headphones?

First of all, what type of sound files are you playing? And on what software are you playing them on? I.E. iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.

Second, check your Audio Settings or your Sound Card settings while your headphones are plugged in and make sure 5.1 Surround Sound is enabled.

Third, have you tried checking your speakers or your sound card's manufacturer to see if they have any driver updates?

Oblivion, and I've also tried music on Windows Media Player 11.

I've checked the Audio settings while my headphones are plugged in and they show that 5.1 is enabled.

Don't have a sound card, but I'm pretty sure these onboard drivers are the latest cause I only got them a few weeks ago.

Where exactly are you plugging in your headphones? Directly into the Mobo? Or in another spot on your computer?

Also, sometimes when you plug in headphones (Especially older ones that aren't USB) after your computer has already booted up, they will not be completely recognized. Try plugging them in before you boot your comp. What's great about USB devices and makes them differ from older parallel port and other input technologies is that they are 'Hot-Swappable', meaning they can be plugged in-and-out of your computer and be used without needing to restart.

I'm plugging them into the headphone jack on my speaker that has the on/off button and volume control. I've tried the plugging in before booting, still no luck.

I guess I'll have to invest in some newer headphones seeing as these are a few years old and have probably shat themselves

Thanks for the help ^_^

simply plug the headphones directly into the headphone jack on the back of your sound card, and make sure that works correctly, and if so you should just get a switch or y splitter for best results, but at the same time, the best audio quality will come straight out of the back of your sound card...

Guess I gotta find out which jack is the headphone one then ^_^
I'll have a look at my manual and post back if it works or not.

Hmm it works, but it plays sound through everything at the same time now... XD
Having it play sound through the speakers and headphones at the same time is kind've pointless.

Though, I just turned down the volume knob on the speakers ^_^ and its still playing through the headphones.

Thanks
