I have had so many headset boom mics die, that I decided last year to buy a good set of headphones and use a separate mic. My zalman has been perfect. I game a good bit, and having clear ventrilo communication is a must. I have the mic attached to my keyboard cable facing me, and it is ideal from this location. I am in OCN vent if you ever want to hear it

That's an interesting idea. I'm surprised it's able to pick up so well with it being that far away from your mouth.

Clearly, I must not be utilizing mine properly. Does anyone have any tips they could share?
- About how far away from the mouth is it?
- What settings do you have in your sound card's software?
- Do you use the +20db boost under the device driver?

mine is about shoulder height on the mic cable, the +20db boost is enabled in windows settings and I also use the mic boost in CSS, my sound card is in audio creation mode with bit matched playback... using the latest drivers hope this helps you out ...

the mic is really sensitive, so it can pick up a lot of noise, amke sure you configure the cut offs properly, as when I first had it i thought it was crap because it was picking up my fan noise (6 big deltas on my front rad 120CFM ea) but after I messed with the cut offs its clear as a bell now...

The problem is with the prelude...

I had an insane time attempting to use the prelude's mic input. This is a known driver issue. The solution? Use the integrated audio for your mic, the prelude for output.

I actually smashed this very microphone for this reason (I couldn't believe it was my $200 sound card). When I picked up a replacement and noticed the same problem I started googling...

Perhaps Auzen has fixed this issue, but google prelude mic problems for more info.

edit: Here's my own thread...
