I have never really thought about headphone amps, and have in fact just recently heard about them. I have also been informed that they can improve the overall quality of headphone listening.

Uh I don't even know where to start looking. Google gives me some strange results about these $300 things that are huge. I don't want something very big, and I don't want to spend more than $50. I don't need a fabulous amp, just something that will boost the performance a little. Mainly because I want to turn the bass up without having distortion.

Any suggestions?

Look into having a CMoy built, or pick one up on ebay.

They're probably not really necessary with the A700, but could help. More power is always better.

There are several versions of the CMoy floating around that include a bass boost circuit that I read is surprisingly good. That could also help fill out your low end.

Wow, dude, a headphone amp inside of an Altoids tin? That's insane. Do they work very well? Looks kinda cheap.

there are better ones that still fit in an altoids tin, but for your price range I seriously suggest looking into the Millet MAX starving student if you're any kind of DIYer... for the altoids tin there is also the MINT and PINT amps that fit nicely inside a mint tin, I myself have a PINT... although they are discontinued due to ground channel issues (I m^3ed mine to fix it...) the best small amp is probably the Mini ^3 but thats about $100 when its all cased up and done...

A CMoy is a great little beginners DIY project, and it will surely help you... maybe you should check these out:

hell, i'll sell you my CMOY amp that soloz sold me and the soloz custom interconnect for 25$ shipped. the cable is worth 30$ alone, and the battery is 10-15$ alone, i just never use it. it comes in a zippo container [not a lighter, a container] but when you wiggle it around too much the sound cuts, nothing a little craft foam won't fix. LMK if you're interested.

check out the millet max Starving student... you can basically put it in what ever you want, chipp put it in a nice Cigar box...

Aura

C&C Box+ or C&C Box v2. The former was discontinued, so it would be hard to find.

I started out on a C&C and thoroughly enjoyed it with both K81DJ's and SR225's.
