i love this card's audio qualities and the game surround over spdif in dts is rocking cool
i hate to throw this card in the drawer but that's exactly what i'm gonna do if asus wont implement 2.1 support for this card soon as i'm down/upgrading my system selling receiver and switching it out for pure amplifiers using the soundcard as pre-amp but i need 2.1(music) just as bad as i need 5.1(movies) and 7.1(movies/games) anyone know about a trick or third party drivers i can use?

i have stumbled upon a fix to this problem if anyone should be interested
i was going true msconfig disabling stuff i didn't want there and someting cought my eye, Cmaudio8788GX was disabled. i thought this was strange so i enabled it after restart i noticed that the x86 version of HsMgr was gone from the list leaving only the x64 version left and Cmaudio8788GX and wouldnt u know when i started music playback i had 2.1 sound ^^ 5.1 alsow works playing movies havent tested games yet in short enable Cmaudio8788GX in msconfig and you should have 2.1 instead of 5.1 when playing a 2.0 source i also have analog out set to 5.1 (u need this for the crossover to work) i still cant belive asus hasn't figured this out yet and given us the option in menu i'v noticed daniel-k is vip-member on asus site let's hope he get's cracking on some nice drivers for us (edit) found out at a later time that this driver: Xonar_D2X_81731_RC01_Vista_beta is the one to use if u want 2.1 but remember to set analog out to 5.1

problems started when i began using analog out instead of spdif
also it worked in older drivers(this solution is kinda using older driver) anyhow i'm pretty pleased with this find means i wont need to get yet another soundcard just hope asus can give a 2.1 option in menu

I have never had an issue with running 2.1 audio on my Xonar, and I've been using every driver since the original driver. Having said that, I've always properly uninstalled my old drivers before installing newer ones. When it comes to selecting 2.1 output this is done simply by selecting the Main button in Asus Audio Centre, and then 2 speakers under Analogue Out. Make sure your speaker cable is connected to the green output on the audio card.

back to square one :/
no way that wasn't a clean install you guy's aren't by any chance using a "2.1 set" that connect's with just 1 plug to the sound card? i get nothing but stereo. the subwoofer out is completely dead using the settings 2 speakers in analog out( i dont get how u guy's are getting 3 speaker's from this setting) going back to the first driver pack and going to stick to it until proper drivers releases giving up on this one (edit) Xonar_D2X_81731_RC01_Vista_beta is the driver to use set analog out to 5.1 and u can use lfe crossover with stereo track's without getting 5.1
