feel? or do you mean hear the difference? I hear a minimal difference going from onboard to an X-fi. I would say get a cheap one.

EDIT: i will clarify though, the onboard on mine was a Asus SupremeFX II, so it was better than a standard onboard system.

Unless you have under $25 speakers you'd have to be deaf or near-deaf not to hear a HUGE increase in sound quality...

Hooking up a X-fi to some $200+ speakers is like night and day, theres NO comparison.

I'd never build a computer without a good sound card. Hearing sounds is half of a game... No use spending big $ for good video cards that can max a game, and then just have crappy sound.

Also probably depends on your sound setup.

If you have 2 stereo speakers on your desk as opposed to a 5.1 surround sound with sub, I wouldnt spend extra $$ on a sound card.

I love my little 2.1 system. Made by Altec Lansing. A nice little sub box and decent quality stereo speakers.

Boy did I hear the difference, my music sounds amazing now! Not to mention games...

With X-Fi's EAX 5.0 for games, everything will sound a lot better.

You really need a good music source though, lol. 128 kbps is not that great. I love Amazon's 256 kbps MP3s, but 192 kbps or better is enough to truly hear the music.

That is what i am saying. I went from a Supreme FX (which from my understanding is MUCH better than standard onboard audio) to a X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card and heard a difference. If he goes from his onboard card to an X-fi, i am sure he will hear a huge difference. btw, my speaker setup is a pair of Logitech G-51's, so it is not a bad setup.

Actually depending on how your stereo speaker setup is, the sound card can make a huge difference, I personally have about a ~$1200 2.1 setup (2 bookshelf speakers, and a power amp, so the sound card makes a huge difference there... but for your general $20 2.0 speakers from walmart, the difference will be hard to notice...
