I was looking at the specs of the Audio-Technica A700's vs the A900's, and the main difference I saw was the max power input (2000mW vs 500mW), but the dBA sensitivity is the same. Does the max power input limit me to what sort of amp I use, or is this limit for something else?

The common misconception with amplifier power (for speakers, and on a smaller scale headphones) is that the max rated spec of an amplifier is the power it will deliver all the time - for practical purposes, you will never approach either of those figures in normal listening. (Though amp x might be rated at 3000mW max, you would have to have the volume cranked well beyond safe or even painful levels to get that kind of power flowing to the headphones.)
This link sums up the science behind determining max SPL and how that relates to sensitivity and input power nicely. ![]() http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache:...ient=firefox-a

Ooohh ok, I wasn't looking at that as comparison to speaker wattage. Thanks, I am enlightened!
