Okay guys, I am being offered a set of Harmon/Kardon LS500 floorstanding speakers for about £200, is this better than my current elac CL82? I can't audition due to the new speakers residing in ireland.

Looks like they will be able to handle bass quite well... Be sure to get a good quality amplifier though , and if you are willing to shell out some money , may i suggest a tube amp.

Make sure you can return them as well :P
