I have realised that I haven't bought anything big for a while, and would like to upgrade my speaker system but I have no idea which is my weakest link in my system. It currently goes AV-710 via digital out > Modded Musiland MD10 DAC > Arcam Delta 290 > 2x Elac CL82 speakers. My problem is that both the amp and speakers are quite old, thus reviews are scarce at best. I do really like the speakers though, both aesthetically and musically so am not going to get rid of them. The one aspect that my current set-up that I find is slightly lacking is its bass, but I'm not sure if my delta 290 can output to a subwoofer?

So, I guess, buy a subwoofer if it can, or buy a new amp and a sub. What do you guys think? I've got around £250 but, naturally, would rather spend much less. How much would I have to spend to get a decent audible improvement?

The other thing that I could spend my money on is getting a new case and making everything silent. How much would that cost? And by silent I mean pretty much...silent, so I wouldn't be able to hear it when it is at my feet..

The vast majority of powered subwoofers on the market will accept speaker-level inputs (and many people prefer to use them over a line in, especially on units that only use mono LFE inputs). So yes, it's safe to say that your Arcam can work with one.

yeah as chipp said speaker level inputs, thats what I'll have to do when my speakers finally arrive here...

Good So which subwoofer would you guys recommend? www.richersounds.com has probably got the largest selection.

I don't like over the top bass, it shall just be at my feet. I like fairly discrete, but accurate. Not OMGCHECKYOURPUMPINBASSYOUROCK.

I'd go for yamaha as I've never heard of Q Acoustics before, adn don't know they're quality and such... but most likely any sub will add that deep bass you want, its simply a question of how clear it will be...

Clear is what I want, really. I'm not a fan of the looks of that yamaha, so I'll take a pass on that one.

Were you in the US I could think of some more familiar brands, but I'm not sure what brands are good in the UK, as subs are too heavy to ship
