Default Speakers Not Detected

***Update on page 2***

Hello OCN-
I am apologize for any noobness ahead of time, please be patient.

I just received my optical cable in the mail and hooked up my Creative Inspire GD580 to my On Board Optical connection K9A2 Platinum. I have the latest RealTek drivers for Vista 64 installed but for w/e reason my speakers are not being recognized.
The receiver is set to Optical and I do in fact hear sound but ONLY from 1 speaker. Here are some screen's. Any other information that would be useful let me know.

No speaker options but Optical connection recognized.

Speakers not plugged in?

Many thanks!

**I cropped these images on photobucket not sure why they are huge... sorry.

Oddly enough I have the option to configure speakers for Digital Output Device (HDMI). But not for the Speakers. It isn't even grayed out, just not available to select. I also can not select properties.

So given the Jack information for 'Speakers'. No digital input.. confused.

Notice the Jack information for digital, perhaps I am missing something.

Could it be that they are disabled via keyboard shortcut (Fn+???). I've wasted about 3 days figuring out why wifi or the touchpad on my laptop didn't work at first because of this.

Offtopic: nice wallpaper, can i have plz?

Check the keyboard short cuts and its a no go, completely stumped. I am getting sound out of only 2 speakers and Vista / Realtek still doesn't recognize any.

Here is the wallpaper, enjoy!

have u tried leaving it plugged in and then reinstalling drivers?

oh just for stating the obvious...Does ur Creative have a "matrix" function like logitech, where u take a 2.1 sound and output it as 5.1.. cuz i kno if u plug in all 3 plugs and leave the matrix effect on, u wont get sound out of 2 speakers whereas when u turn it off, it'll instantly give u the 5.1 sound.

I have reinstalled the drivers for the RealTek on baord HD sound from MSI. The speakers do not actually have any drivers associated with them, I hear this is normal but that is what Creative says. I now have sound out of all 5 speakers but do not have any type of speaker settings to speak of.

I have an update....

I read an article that directed me to get into the Connector Settings and 'Disable front panel jack detection'. After I did this the 'Speakers' tab suddenly appeared and I was able to configure my speakers. However when I attempted to run a test no sound came out, at all. So I decided to run I-tunes to check it out and to my suprise sound was coming out of all 5 speakers. I am going to restart and hopefully things will get resolved.

What should be set as default device: Digital Output or Speakers ?
