I don't get you Legendary - you say that card "X" is rubbish because it doesn't work properly. Has it maybe occurred to you that the card is not working properly because your system is too damn old?

Well, its kinda like this:"
Under Windows98SE Radeon 7000, 9250, and FX5500 perform perfectly, no issues with games, i could play halo and games like flatout 1 and 2 at near 60fps. The FX5500 is really the best card for win9x. Under XP The BFG 6200 is the only card that perform perfectly, only a few nags. But overall its a great card and despite the 250 watts PSU requirement, the card never had issues with games. Using the 2400HD & 8400GS. They both kinda function the same way. Some games work perfectly, while others did not. Its 50/50. Only thing, the 8400GS seems to be weaker in newer games then the 2400HD. TimeShift, Stranglehold, Jerico all perform terrible with the 8400GS, but with the 2400 those 3 games work great. Lets see in Crysis, the 8400GS played the game well, its playable, but with the 2400 it performs terrible. I am positive that my computer is not too old to handle higher PCI cards, its just that some PCI cards does not function correctly on my system. I already provide proof with that. Its really no point in to continue having this discussion tho, i mean you folks continue to say these cards are not working properly in my system because its too old, but if that was the case, all my games would not work. When i clearly said that most do. I think the card is the issue to be honest with it, if my 6200 can run Crysis better then the 2400HD, well clearly its not my computer, its the stupid card. But then again, maybe not, because the 2400 can run strangle hold fine, but the 6200 can't even load the thing. hmmmmmmm, so really i am kinda confused myself hahah Or, what someone told me. Doesn't matter which card you get, you won't be able to play every game correctly, which i think sucks. |

Its possible that these cards are working intermitantly, is because the pci revision on your board is too old. There are numerous revisions, 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, 2.3 etc, and the newer ones run at less volts then the older ones. So it could be a voltage problem with the newer cards, as the older pci spec used 5volts and the new one uses 3.3v. You may damage the video card or your computer. And on another note, why would you spend money on a new card for that pc, considering the 8400 card is worth a lot more then that whole pc.

Ok, so the 8400gs requires a 300w PSU, and you tried running it with a 90w PSU...well there ya go.
Here's an idea...GET A NEW COMPUTER!

But from what i am seeing, the BFG 6200 is really different from the 2400 or 8400GS. The BFG is 250 watts requirement and the card works perfect. |

Your sound not working could be an irq conflict with the card, since win98 does not support acpi. The other info doesn't really explain much to me, other then it looks like the gfx manufacturers use some kind of pci-e to pci bridge. Also you may not have enough power to run the new cards, once your system hits full load the power strain may become to much.
