Question Can a Video card destroy your onboard sound?

Because if so, i think this is the issue right now. I took back that stupid 8400GS512MB card, the card is big as hell, for a PCI card, its the biggest one i ever seen. So i had kinda trouble putting in the thing, so once i got the card in, i notice i heard some crackling sound in my headset, didn't pay it no mind. And once i got the drivers install, the card was working fine, but my onboard sound disappeared So anyways, i tried everything getting it back, only thing using XP, my integrated sound changes from

"Integrated Crystal Audio Sound Driver" to Intel 82810AA AC'97

There are no drivers for the Intel 82810AA AC'97, only for ME, not XP.

So anyways, using the 8400GS the sound never came back, so i put in a sound card, the sound card works fine with the 8400GS. Now the strange thing, i notice that my Intergrated sound would come back out of nowhere, but once i restart my computer, it disappears again.
.................................................. ..............................

Now, going back to windows98SE, my sound came back , but disappeared again and under device manager in safe mode it shows up, but when not in safe mode, it isn't there. No sound right now. I can't use the sound card, because there are no win9x drivers. So after getting rid of XP, and reinstalling win9x, no sound, again.

I was thinking about deleting windows, and trying again to see would it bring it back. Maybe i have to delete windows and just start all over again.
When i went back to windows98SE, i didn't delete windows, what i did was change back to FAT32 from NTFS and click on reformat HD and reinstall windows98SE.

Should i have deleted it and hit install Windows98SE?
But right now i am using windows98se and i can't seem understand what happen with my onboard sound?

Note:

The 8400GS which gave me issues with the sound requires a 300Watts PSU, VS My 90.

All my other Video cards never did this to me:

2400HD - 270
6200- 250
FX5500 - 250

When i had the video card in, everything was plug in. But i don't know why my sound vanished. I am about to delete windows and format and reinstall and see if the problem is fix. If not, that 8400 , my guess it was too powerful and actually took away my integrated sound, and i have to go out and buy a sound card.

Go to sounds in control panel, and set the default for the sound card or onboard sound if that is what you use, I'm sure you will find that it set the sound default for the HD audio that is from the video card.

I am about to delete windows and format and reinstall, but i already formated and reinstall twice, no go. I thought once you reinstall windows, everything is deleted, so i don't believe its a conflict issue.

Also, keep in mind, i am not using the 8400GS anymore, i have a clean PC now. I think the card did something to my sound board. The first time i install the card, i heard a crackling sound, and it sounded like some radio signal was going on, in my headset. My headset is working fine btw.

Alright couple things here, the 8400GS requires a 300Watts PSU, maybe the card was too much and took out my soundboard. Now my other GPU which i have use, requires 200 - 270, they worked perfect, no issues. Or the 8400GS pci card is just a dumb ass card.

I can't set anything. The sound devices only shows up in safe mode, but in normal mode, everything is grey out and there is no sound devices in device manager.

Why is it showing up in safe mode, but not normal mode?
