No I don't have the time to make my own right now.

OK I'm definitely going with a 2 channel amp, it will cost less and then I can spend more on speakers and or get a better 2 channel amp then having to spend more on a ****ty 5.1/7.1 I won't be using.

Keep the suggestions coming people. How are Onkyo amps? I checked out some Harmon amps, the one you mentioned is like $400 locally. Keep in mind I live in Canada and we pay more for electronics here.

Where are you near? BTW, headphones might be more viable as you can get very good sound out of them vs. speakers.

BTW, would bookshelf speakers be alright for gaming? Any delay in sound because its gotta go through the amp and sound card?

Thanks.

I'd check audiogon for something like an RB991 power amp (200 wpc, solid construction, may be around $300) and then for speakers I'd reccomend some AV123 XLS encores, although the setup I've just mentioned would put you outside of your target pricerange, they would sound devine, and then you can add an audio amp into the circuit later, I personally just dropped around $2k on my 2.1 setup for my PC, it consists of those XLS encores, an MFW15, a Millet max Tube amp, and a NAD 2200PE power amp, its still in the works...my speakers and sub ship in october...

there is also this great option for some great bookshelf speakers, and they're from a great guy too, the Onix reference .5s
http://www.overclock.net/sale/360222...gear-case.html

he's building my millet max tube amp great guy to deal with.

and I know what you're saying about the whole canada thing, I'd stay away from big box stores like Future shop/Best buy/ Circuit City/ and adio Shack/ Wal Mart and the source... I'm from Cambridge Ontario, about an hour outside of TO, check kijiji for offerings in your area... I found some nice speakers there for only $50 and the guy drove them to my house 4 free there is an RB 991 on audiogon from vancouver, it'd be a great power amp for you, I wanted one so much, but gave into a great deal on a NAD 2200 PE instead, I'd trade you if you wanted

Thanks for your suggestions......btw i'm from Cambridge as well hahaha.

I've been considering just getting some amplified speakers from M-audio (Studiophile BX5a) or Swans (M200MKII) instead.....but Still looking around, there is just too much to learn, too many companies. Been looking at some Aperion (http://www.aperionaudio.com/product/...08,20,250.aspx) speakers as well, decently priced and their customer service sounds great and of course those speakers are gorgeous.

I'd like to buy new, I understand you can get some good deals on used gear but I'd rather just buy new. And I'm not sure what to look for, especially with specs. I'd like to spend under $300 for the speakers though. Or like I said maybe just go with a set of good amplified speakers if there is such a thing like those Swans or M-Audio to make things simple. Also would like something that can produce some decent bass, I won't want to add a sub.

M-Audio Studiophile BX5a: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...luxe-main.html

Swans M200MKII: http://www.swanspeaker.com/product/htm/view.asp?id=364
