Lately I've been wanting to upgrade my computer speakers. Every since I got my sound card (Sondigo Inferno CMI8788) and Audio Technica ATH-A700's headphones I've been wanting more from my PC speakers.
__________________I've been thinking about putting together a bookshelf setup w/ an amp (2.1). Before anyone mentions Z-5500's I don't want them. I'm looking to spend no more than $600-700 if possible ($300 on speakers, $300 on an amp). Not sure where to start with speakers or amps. Been looking at some JBL ES20's. I play games, watch movies, and obviously listen to a lot of music. Are there any disadvantages with going with a setup like this for a computer other than cost and space? Can anyone help me out? Looking for something clear, crisp, decent bass and maybe look cool (black, mmmmm) Thanks.

I dont see any disadvantage. I have my computer hooked up to my receiver with the digital optical output on my mobo. But i also have a pair of Bose companion 3 which are amazing. I usually watch movies and listen to music. If you want to go with a amp and bookself. You can get a nice 2.0 reciever, which wouldnt be more then $200. and 300$ for a pair of speakers i think is too much its gonna overkill the reciever. You can go with some nice boston acostic. (most 2.0 recievers have 2x 100 watts per channel.)

300$ is overkill for quality speakers, some nice BA's would be nice like isstern stated, really im useing a pair of radioshack walkman headphones......sounds the same as my friends 460$ surround sound uber headphones to me =/ speaker are diffrent to me, they don't fit right with me i like the sound in my ear's not in my neighbors house

I've heard some good/expensive speakers before and I can tell the difference, same with headphones etc. $300 is reasonable to me, you get what you pay for. Have you guys actually seen what some "good" speakers go for?, its crazy. Plus I plan on having these for a long time anyways.

. Although I've been thinking of getting a 5.1 amp and eventually use it for a surround setup, but I don't know right now, probably not.

those 2, my uncle got the 300$ one's they are great for a bookshelf setup, if you want to save just a little tiny 200$ go for the lower end ones, i ended up trying them and liked them for a while until a power surge hit my house and fried them. both are great for bookshelf setup both very clear audio
