Default Switching from iPod to Zune - how to transfer library?

My wife has an iPod and wants to switch over to a Zune. Most of the music in her iTunes library is stuff that she's ripped from CDs or purchased DRM-free from Amazon. She has about 90 songs she's purchased from iTunes as well.

So my question is twofold:

1) Can we simply copy the mp3 files for the ripped & Amazon music from the folders on her iTunes library and import them into the Zune library?

2) Is there a better way to transfer the purchased music from iTunes than burning them to a bunch of CDs and then re-ripping them? Or does Apple have a stranglehold on it with their DRM?

Thanks and rep+ for the tip. Tunebite looks like exactly what we need and it's not expensive either.

I'm in for Tunebite too, it's a good choice.

Whoa, well it seems it too late to warn the OP but for anybody else that's curious, you do not need any type of converter. An mp3 is an mp3. The only thing that Zune doesn't play is ALAC. Just set your music folder in the Zune software to your itunes library.

Actually it's not too late since the wife hasn't gotten her Zune yet.

For regular mp3 files, that makes sense since they're just plain old mp3's that she ripped from CD. But the files she purchased from iTunes (aac files I think) need to be converted before loading them up on the Zune, correct?

If you're talking about the protected AAC files from the itunes store, then they have to be decrypted first. You can look here for all the information you might need to do that. The Zune plays AAC files as well but not the encrypted ones from itunes store.

Zune is great, I have the 8 gig Zune comparable to the Ipod Nano and its Solid, Battery life is amazing, It charges very fast and now it has games too. Great little device. If I were to ever lose it...
