I've been wanting to get a half decent sound card, but with how I have my case set up I have to get a PCI-Ex1 card. I've been eyeing this ASUS Xonar DX for a while and thinking about getting it. Does anyone with personal experience think there's something better for the money or that the card is crap? I'll be using it on Vistax64 by the way.

Alright, good to hear. Anyone else want to drop their opinion?
And is the power connector on it the same as a floppy's?

Audio quality is on even grounds with a Creative X-Fi card, maybe a bit better. What sets it above Creative cards are the fact that have drivers that work well. X-Fi Prelude on the other hand completely decimates it with the options to upgrade OAmp

The difference, as far as I've seen, isn't that the DX is so much better than the X-Fi, the difference is the DX actually works without driver-induced headaches.
Since the launch of Vista, Creative managed to sort out its drivers, so now I don't think an X-Fi would have any problem. Still they had problems with drivers for more than a year and the Audigy still has crappy support in Vista. Since those who buy good VID cards they tend to keep them for a while, I'd say to get a Xonar. You won't want to upgrade to windows 7 in a year and discover you have to use the onboard Realtek sound until Creative sorts out the driver issues. My 2 cents.

From onboard to a xonar DX, big difference. You may not notice it right away, but it will get to you once you start playing music and games. I was blown away by how great it is when loud
