Okay so i just bought my z-5500 speakers ..
Took me a while to set it all up . So basically i have an onboard soundcard 7.1 HD on a gigabyte mobo .. I had creative 5.1 speakers before and they worked perfectly .. but i thought of getting some more power . The thing with the z-5500 is that i cant get the center speaker to work .. i have it set at input: direct and effect: stereo x2 .. the only other setting that works is stereo x1 but that only makes 2 front speakers work... Its really annoying now .. coz i have no idea what the problem is .. im pretty sure i have connected everything fine .. and i have installed new audio driver too.. And btw the pink noise test doesnt work AT ALL! BUT somehow i can listen to music with 4 speakers working . And one more problem .. the subwoofer is too quiet .. even though i keep it at max.. :S if anyone owns the z-5500 and knows what could have gone wrong .. please help...

Did you try setting in control panel>sound and had sure you have it set to 5.1 speakers. And you need to set the z-5500 to 6ch direct to hear all of the speakers.

Stereo means that you are using one left channel and one right channel. Stereo X2 means that you are using the rear channels in a forced stereo mode along with the normal stereo setup. I would suggest try using a setting that is meant for 5.1 use such as the pro logic II movie/music modes or the 6 channel direct mode as those modes are designed for 5.1 channel use while the stereo modes are just that, stereo.

Think you might have the same problem as me, do your z5500s use wires for the speakers or RCA? There is not real fix for my problem

One of OCNs pros.

dont use stero X2. thatd disables the center and just puts it at 4.1. use direct 6 channel and the center will only kick in when it needs to. so its not a problem. also on the pod if you have it set for movies you can choose the width of the sound. W is wide and makes the left and right work more and N is narrow and puts more sound to the center.

the problem is im using analog wires .. so i cant enable the optical or coax wire option.. only direct.
The 6ch direct option doesn't work for some reason .. its silent .. The dolby mode doesnt work aswell i think it mite be bcoz of my stock mobo sound card .. i dont know. Any ideas?

haha i found an ancient sound blaster live 5.1 in my room! xD
Since im not very good with sound cards .. im gna ask this .. Should i just keep trying with the gigabyte onboard HD 7.1 and somehow make all my speakers work ? Or should i try to resurrect my 4 years old ancient sound blaster.. and will it actually sound better than the onboard one? lol ..

Born to ROCK!

Try a decent sound card with Optical / Coaxial as it ROCKS.
Especially with Dolby
