Default Weird sound card problem

I never seen this before but just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I went to turn my computer on and nothing happened , so I look at the leds on the motherboard and there not lit. After messing around with computer I get it to power on all did was remove and then reinstall the gfx and sound cards. Once I get into windows though I have no sound same thing in Ubuntu. I went to best buy and bought an X-Fi card and the card works in the same pci slot that old one was in. I never had sound card die on me, I wouldnt think I would lose power like that to my motherboard. Everything is working fine and there was no early warning signs of a problem

Only thing i can think of is a conflict in irq's. Maybe change slots if you can? Or idk how to change irq, but you may be able to in the bios.
