Alright, so I picked up a cheap pair of JVC Marshmallows while I wait for my HD 201s to arrive, and while they are certainly alright, they don't fit right.
I found the foam material used to be too firm, and it was a hassle to get them in, because they reformed after compressing them to fast. The end result was that I rarely ever got a proper seal, and when I did, it didn't last more than 15 minutes because the foam popped out of my ears. Yesterday I decided to finally do something about it. I picked up a packet of disposable earplugs from my work (the orange foam ones). I noticed that they were noticeably softer, and tended to stay in my ears better. In my last class I finally got around to trying the mod. I took a miniature screwdriver (the ones you use for glasses) and poked a hole through the middle of the ear plug. I slid it up to the center to widen it, and then twisted it around, allowing the metal ridges on the screwdriver to shave some of the foam off. After it was wide enough I cut the ear plug roughly in half using the screwdriver (it was a flat head, so I just pressed down until I heard a click). I removed the stock foam from the earbuds, and after a little coaxing managed to get them fit around the plastic shroud. I'm actually somewhat surprised at how effective it actually is. Sound quality improved a little bit, not much, but I think this is how they are supposed to sound with a proper seal. The bass is a little overpowering, but thats expected, and Kramer's mod should fix that (haven't bothered since I could never get a proper seal anyway). Comfort wise its much better. The stock foam pushed against my ears, which got very uncomfortable after a while, but because the ear plug foam is softer I can barely feel it. Its much easier to get a good seal, although I have to hold them in a little longer for the foam to fully expand its fairly tight, and doesn't slide out like the stock ones do. I'll try and get some pictures up tonight so you can see what I'm talking about. Its not that great of a mod, but for the price (free) its a great improvement. I usually test my headphones with the song Eva, by Nightwish, simply because sound quality makes a big difference in the quality of Annette's voice, and of all my tests done (Skullcandy Fullmetal Jacket, Smokin Buds, Lowrider, Sony MDR XD200s, Logitech X-240 speakers) these, even with the overpowering bass come out on top, which is surprising because they are the cheapest by a fair margin.

Definitely do the kramer mod! Although I didn't notice any change in the bass (the bass always sounded balanced to me), the treble became much more clear with the mod.
