How would i go about recording sound on my computer?
I mean like a sound effect in a game, or the windows error sound. I need to record some of the sound effects from the Goldeneye 007 rom (i own the original game) for a class video contest we're having at my high school. Rep+ for input. Note: I am aiming to capture sounds like gunshots, door sounds, kill sounds, and the like. NOT the music.

i found this little thing, might be worth giving it a try.
1. Select your sound properties through the control panel or the sound icon in your system tray. 2. Click on the properties tab. 3. Check the recording box. 4. Make sure Wave Out Mix is selected (It’s sometimes called stereo mix, or mono mix). 5. Now you should be able to set Wave Out as your default for recordings made by Audacity or other audio recording programs.

Look for a recording output labeled "What you hear".. which literally records everything that you hear coming from your computer speakers/headphones.

that's what I was thinking as well. There might be a way to extract audio from a rom. I don't know of any programs tho, so I guess google (or someone else :P ) will be your best friend for this

You can do it with Fraps for in-game sounds. Go to the "movies" tab, and select Record Sound, and select what input you want. It'll actually be a video, so you'll have to split the audio from the video, but that isnt too hard (for that I use Rad video tools). Its a bit of a roundabout way to do it, but if the "what you hear" recording technique doesnt work that was mentioned earlier, I have used this method with some success.

a couple of people did a similar video for my year-end-video back in highschool (2006)
i would try to get in touch with them, but at the time they were loose aquaintences and now they are barely facebook material, lol good luck though PS: the "what you hear" feature is only for x-fi products i think, not naitive to windows
