If you have a car sub the best thing you can do is build a proper box for HT use and save for a plate amplifier and your set

Unless you have a spare PSU, Amplifier and sub which you dont care about and are on a really tight budget there are much better options for a little extra
Oh, of course . I've already got the box design made. I just have to afford the materials to make it (and make it look nice). I've also already got the plate amp picked out that I WANT to buy for it.....which can be found here. My only hope is that its 2ohm stable, which it doesn't appear to be. So I'd probably be forced to run it at 8ohms, which isn't a big deal since its over 500w @ 8ohms, and the box is ported.

But that is my EVENTUAL goal...is to turn this subwoofer into a REAL home theater sub. Its just gonna take time, and for now I can jerry-rig it with whatever I've got laying around, or throw it back in my car.

One of the most important components of any amplifier is the power supply

Im really interested to see how long that power supply lasts and how the amplifier holds up too
I'm quoting this post again....I borrowed some of your information and added a disclaimer to the bottom of my original post. I figured I'd quote it again, just so that its current, and people get a chance to see it (for those thread skippers who skip to the last post). I will of course be giving credit to you for bringing this to my attention.

That amplifier will not take 2ohm punishment There is a thread about it over at AVS i think and it didn't fare very well with the 2ohm load... The reason why is that the power supply is not able to produce the needed current to produce power at 2ohm (see power in audio is very important)

On a side note have you considered something like the EP2500 which you can find on line for about $350 in the states, a much better amplifier which is 2ohm stable on each channel and can be bridged to give you about 2000 watts at 4ohm Real power, the reason i suggest if that those plate amplifiers are not very highly rated in the DIY subwoofer community when high power is needed...

Well...its gotta be a 2ohm or an 8ohm load with this sub. I could very easily settle for a 500w 8ohm load. The sub only handles 750w RMS, and in a ported box, I'm sure the power handling will go down substantially (compared to sealed, which is what this sub is rated for).

Behringer rates the EP2500 at 1300 watts bridged at 8ohm Your never gona clip that amplifier driving that little subwoofer

Those specs are a little inflated though, there is an amplifier measuring thread over at AVS Forums and from memory it could produce 1100 watts bridged at 8ohm which is still silly for home theater use.

I Just think the EP would be better because it is better build and can always be used for other things, such as your main speakers Plate amps are good but i own lots of subs and the ability to swap amplifiers between different speakers/subs if great

Like i said have a read http://www.hometheatershack.com/ and http://www.avsforum.com/ in the DIY subwoofer sections

Also if you need any help designing or with building tips i have build many HT subs (by the sounds of it so have you) so just PM me if you need specific help

Lol, last time I tried that one, the amplifier smoked itself (old SoundStorm 2 channel 750w x2). I won't do that one again..however I will try to find new ways to make an amp smoke itself .

Interestingly i know someone who powers his recording stuff from 24volt batteries charged from solar pannels or mains power when its cloudy The batteries run to a inverter which takes it back to 240volt...

Alrighty, just updated the "Special Thanks To" section to include everyone that posted truly helpful comments that are quite beneficial to my original post.

I'd also like to make note, that the setup is still working just fine. I just moved it to my living room yesterday, and added another crap PSU to it. Still works fine, still rattles the entire apartment complex . I'm happy, the neighbors aren't though, lol.
