Lightbulb Xonar D2x intall issue

I just finished setting up my rig, and I'm finalizing by intalling the lastest drivers for all my devices.

The only one I have left to install is for my Xonar D2X sound card. But for some reason vista cannot recognize that this sound card is already on the mobo. Because everytime I go through the setup screen to install the drivers for the card I get a message saying, "please plug your Asus Xonar D2x device".

It is plugged in and I have the power cable connected to it as instructed. But vista for some odd reason won't even recognize that this is new hardware.

When I try to load the drivers manually through the add new hardware in vista, at one point during driver installation I get blue screen of death you know, "Windows has encountered a problem in order to prevent damage to your computer Windows is shuting down...etc."

But when I restart I get blue screen of death again. Until I remove drivers for the sound card then I can boot normally. Why is this happening.

Please help. Thank you.

unfortunately, the pci-e x1 slot where I have it installed is the only one where it will fit. I would have to change the slot where my video card is placed in order to use the other pci-e 1x slot for my sound card.

The problem there is that if I placed my video in another pci-e16x slot other than slot 1, my mobo will tell me that I must because there is only one card on the board I must place the card in pci-ex16 slot 1, other wise the system will not boot to the OS.

any other suggestions?

btw, the card lights up and so I know that it is working. Just that windows does not recognize it on the mobo.

well just read that the Xonar D2x can be placed in x16 slot as well so I will try your suggestion and see what happens. Will post results here soon.

Thanks!

still get the same result. windows does not detect.

You don't suppose this is linked to my pci bus 3 not having enough resources? Because when I went to the device manager, there is a exclimation next to this device.

And it says that "this device cannot find enough resources to use".

Do you think this could be the problem.

all my drivers for all other devices are installed and ready.

like I stated previously when I install the xonar drivers manually through add hardware. While installing I get blue screen of death. but if I boot windows in safe mode when I get to the desktop I get a message saying all drivers for xonar audio device are installed.

right now i am in safe mode. but when I reboot and start windows normarlly i will just end up with blue screen of death again.

so I should just try and do another clean install of windows? should I have my sound card already on the board or wait until vista installs and insert the card?
